Who are the First Peoples? (and a little bit of history)
Article three: Who are the First Peoples?
Basically a little brief history on the first peoples:
The Start
So basically around 1000 BC the first nations of the Canadian land (Indigenous peoples) settled in modern-day North America (there was no country of Canada nor the U.S.A. back then; it was just the land that Indigenous groups settled on; the colonizers weren't here yet). Then the indigenous settled and stayed here for around 23,000-30,000 years.
Start of the Colonization of N. America
In 1000 AD, Christopher Columbus (some random Italian sailor/explorer dude) discovered North America, thinking it was India. And hence why sometimes indigenous peoples are called 'Indians.' He came to North America by accident since he was trying to get to Asia to do trading stuff, for example, spices. And so that is how North America was "discovered." In 1492/early 1500s, Spanish settlements were established along the east coast of North America, which was mostly Spanish. Then the French, British, and Dutch (for a short time the Portuguese) noticed and started colonizing (basically claiming land and establishing settlements to 'own' a piece of land) as well. But due to the harsh and cold weather and revolts and chaos in colonies. The Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch left as well, but the French and Brits decided to stay, and so the '13 colonies' (basically early-day America), the 'Dominion of Canada' (named by the Brits), and 'New France' (named by the French) were formed. Later in 1776, America (at the time 13 colonies) revolted against the British and decided to attack Canada as well. and succeeded with independence from the British Empire. Later in 1803 they continued their conquest to the west (basically the rest of Western North America) and did the Louisiana Purchase thingy from the French.
After 1800
Later in 1846, the Americans asked for some of the Mexican Empire's territory, but the Mexicans declined, so they declared war and won the Mexican-American War (they got the states of California, Nevada, Utah, most of Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, and Oklahoma). And later in 1867, the Russians were broke and wanted to sell Alaska since they said it was "useless" but now regret it a lot; they were going to sell it to Liechtenstein but sold it to America instead of British-controlled Canada. since they both had the mutual enemy of Britain. So basically that's the brief summary of the colonial history of North America (1492-1867).

Conclusion
So a very basic summary is that the Indigenous peoples arrived in N. America around 1000 BC. Then the first colonizers (Chris. Columbus and such) came around 1000 AD, and more and more European settlers arrived after the discovery of "India" (they just assumed North America was India), and they just colonized North America. That's a brief summary of the history of N. America. (idk why i wrote so much lol)
