Palmer Junior High opened in September 1959 with 769 students. It was named after Robert Cecil Palmer, a Richmond magistrate. A fire in 1976 caused major damage, and the school was renovated in 1978. In 1996, the district added grades 8–12, and Palmer became a full secondary school in May 2000.
