Biology history

Article two: Biology history

The history of biology is the story of the development of the science of life (basically biology) from its ancient roots (alchemy) to today. Though the idea of a science of biology as a body of connected knowledge did not appear until the 19th century (around the 1800s), the biological sciences descend from the tradition of medicinal knowledge, which extended from the Ayurvedic tradition of India, the civilization of ancient Egypt (Ancient Egyptian Empire), and the writings of the Greeks, particularly Aristotle, Theophrastus, and the writings of Galen (Greek philosophers), to the end of the Greco-Roman civilization. This continued into the medieval period with the work of the Arabic scholars, particularly Avicenna. The European Renaissance brought on the biological revolution with the rise of a new tradition of empiricism, the discovery of new organisms, and the development of new approaches to the natural world.
