French is a language that originates from France that is similar to English, but it's not. It is a very popular language in Europe, the Americas, and a lot of Africa. Since France was a colonial power back in the 1500s-1950s, their language is very widespread across the world, just like English! French is considered a Romance language because it evolved directly from Vulgar Latin, which was from the Roman Empire times. Romance language just means any language that evolved from Vulgar Latin, which everyday people spoke in the Roman Empire.
